We are the very first brand that packs wild-caught sardines in organic extra virgin olive oil with a high polyphenol value, confirmed by an independent lab test. Most, if not all, sardines are packed in poor quality oil (mostly refined olive oil). If a packaging says ‘olive oil’, that usually means a mixture of refined olive oil with a small percentage of extra virgin olive oil.
This is a missed opportunity since polyphenols, only present in specific, high-quality extra virgin olive oil, support the fish’s nutritional value when you eat it. The polyphenols from the olive oil prevent oxidation of the sardines’ Omega-3 fatty acids, ensuring that you can benefit from a maximum amount of intact, healthy Omega-3's. Besides that, the olive oil is absorbed by the fish, making the fish taste even better.
